Why Yoga
I began practicing yoga in 1998, to balance the hectic pace of my professional life. Since then, I have found that yoga not only relieves stress but also brings a more balanced and empowered perspective to all aspects of my life.
My teaching journey began in 2005 with the Asheville Yoga Center's 230-hour teacher training program. At the time, I was simply hoping to deepen my own practice. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that not only did I improve my personal practice, but that I find great joy in teaching yoga. I have been sharing my love of yoga with students in Savannah since that time. In 2006, I quit the rat race and have been focusing on studying and teaching yoga ever since.
In November and December of 2007, I studied at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore India. For more information on that experience, check out my blog.
In October 2008, I completed David Swenson's Ashtanga Teacher Training Course in Winter Park, Florida. I am also certified to teach yoga to senior citizens through the Silver Age Yoga program based in San Diego.
In May, 2009 I completed Mark White's 200 Hour Baptiste-style Power Yoga teacher training program at MBody Yoga in Jacksonville, FL. In October, 2009 I began my current journey, studying with Baron Baptiste. I attended Baron Baptiste's Level 1 Teacher Training in Mexico and loved it so much I stayed an extra week to participate in the G.R.E.A.T. program, which focuses on assisting students. After that I was fortunate to be a part of the
B.A.D.A.S.S. program in Hawaii in February, 2010. In May 2010 I attended Level 2 training in Mexico. I now consider myself a Baptiste inspired teacher and will continue to study and learn from Baron as I work toward full certification as a Baptiste Power Vinyasa teacher. At this point I can proudly call myself Georgia's only Baptiste Associate Teacher!
In January of 2009, Brent Martin, Lynne McSweeney and I formed The Yoga Co-op of Savannah. Our aim is to provide a space where yoga students and teachers can come together and share their love for the practice. The co-op business model allows us to run the yoga studio with a focus on community instead of profit. While we do not make any money operating the co-op, like the other teachers in the co-op we do get paid by teaching classes and workshops. We hope you will find a community-oriented space where the practice of yoga takes center stage.
