Happy Birthday June
On Sunday, Leena, Jennifer and I hosted a birthday party for June. We wanted to make sure it was really special because this was a big milestone birthday for June. Leena and Tina helped us plan it, making sure it would be an Indian style affair.

Here's a pic of June. Can you guess how old she is? Now add 10 years to your guess.
One the food side we kept it light, since most folks were coming directly from Mr. Joseph’s Christmas party at the Southern Star. Tina made Pau Bhaji, and Carrot Halva. Anu made samosas with mint chutney and her vegan chocolate banana cake. Joey also brought over a banana cake.
As for decorations, we started by stringing up some brightly colored saris to create some ambiance. We put out lots of indian candles and Mahdevi created two beautiful Rangoli.
We also hired Manju and Kirin, the two little boys who sell flower garlands. They decorated the entryway and presented each guest with a garland as they came in.

On the diversions side - Dominique read Tarot.

Leena arranged for Subha to come over and do mehndi for all of the women.

After we cut the cake we presented June with her gift – we got her the beautiful sari that she had tried on at CIE.

Considering that we had over 20 people show up to wish June well, and folks lingered until after 9:00 pm on a “school night” I think we can declare it a success! More pics here.
