The countdown is on...only 2 more days before I start my journey. The trip to Mysore itself should be a major adventure. Starting on Wednesday morning, I fly from Savannah to Atlanta to JFK to Paris to Bangalore. I land at about 1:00 am on Thursday morning (assuming I do not get delayed anywhere along the way).
My plan from there is to catch a few winks at a hotel near the train station and then hop on an 11:00 am train to Mysore. I could have had a car pick me up at the airport and drive me straight to Mysore in the middle of the night for $40, but I did not want to miss the train ride experience. I'll let you know if it was worth it.
As for other prep I have gotten a bunch of shots (Hep A&B, Typhoid, TDAP, etc.) and started taking my malaria meds this morning. I don't normally worry about getting sick, but am taking my own personal OTC pharmacy just in case.
My friend Lisa just got back from AYRI at the beginning of October and told me the best thing she took with her was her quick drying camp towel. Apparently it is so humid that a normal towel won't dry between showers. Sounds like Savannah if we didn't have air conditioning! I have also been scouring my closet for long skirts and long sleeve blouses since the Indians are not too fond of yoginis waltzing around town in tank tops and spandex yoga pants...or...maybe the problem is that they are too fond of it??
Other than some anxiety about whether I have the mental and physical stamina to do an ashtanga practice every day for a month, I am ready to go.
